Indescribable, Validating, and Enlightening: Why Teagan Comes Back to the Annual Conference Year after Year

By Teagan Miller

You know what’s sneaking up on us quickly??

The IOCDF’s 30th Annual OCD Conference, sponsored by Sheppard Pratt!

Registration for this incredible event is now open!! This summer it is happening in Chicago!

If you’re debating on whether or not you should come, here is my input!

As someone who started attending these conferences as an 18-year-old, I haven’t missed a year since. It’s become a tradition that not only benefits my recovery but is something I genuinely look forward to all year long! The reason is not only because these couple of days provide SO much knowledge and access to resources. But also, the genuine connections and friendships made in these couple days each year are unmatched.

It is more than just meeting people and learning together for a few days. It’s the indescribable feeling of seeing yourself in others who share similar experiences as you. Hearing someone explain something you’ve struggled with for so long is so validating.  And by sharing experiences, we actually crush OCD.

OCD wants us to hide in shame or fear of what will happen if the truth is let out. What I’ve learned is to let that truth out! There is nothing to hide or be ashamed of. OCD is a disorder that you did not ask for. Thoughts are JUST thoughts and OCD withers in the face of light.

LIGHT IT UP!!!!! The connections, knowledge, and mental freedom that come from this conference are truly invaluable. Sessions are presented in a clear and accessible way, making it easy to absorb the information without feeling overwhelmed. PLUS! It is so much fun! True freedom is laughing with former strangers who have become new friends about how silly and creative OCD can be. Freedom is also grieving the parts of our lives we’ve lost to this disorder, together. Freedom is then going out for drinks later to celebrate the hope we’ve been given to one another.

I highly encourage you to look further into the Annual OCD Conference. It is being held in Chicago from July 10-13th 2025. This event is not only for adults with OCD but also for children, students, loved ones, professionals, and researchers.

If you can’t make it in person, join us virtually! This conference is hybrid!

This deeply challenging disorder has united us as strangers, forming a community so strong it feels like family. There is so much to learn and take from this event, which brings us all together.

I can confidently say that you will not regret attending!!

Register today at IOCDF.org/ocdcon

See ya there!!! <3
