Hold the Bagua map in your hands standing at the front entrance of your home to identify the nine areas of your home. Visualize the Bagua Template placed over your floor plan, from the front of your home, where you enter, to the back walls of the house. You will then determine if your front door is in the KNOWLEDGE and WISDOM, CAREER, OR HELPING PEOPLE AND TRAVEL AREA. If you are standing at your front entrance and the door is to the far left, you are entering through KNOWLEDGE and WISDOM. If your front door is in the middle of the front of your home, you are entering through CAREER, and if your front door is to the right of the home’s facade, then you enter through HELPING PEOPLE AND TRAVEL. So when you identify the entrance to the house, the rest of the floor plan will be easy to locate on the Bagua Map. IF, AND ONLY IF you have a rectangular or square home, it will be easy. Yet, here’s the thing, most of us do not have a perfectly rectangular or square house, and even if we do, a second-floor may have some part missing unless it duplicates the first floor exactly. Placement of Your Stuff
You want to think about the placement of furniture, trees, vases, equipment, family photos, books, chairs, desks, tables, lighting, artwork, electrical equipment, telephones, and wires to protect the “chi” from affecting the inhabitants. Strewn about objects or items misplaced can leave you with uneasy feelings. Too many random knick-knacks, pictures hung improperly is not only bad decorating; everything you own holds energy, and when it’s off, you will feel chaotic.
Feng Shui Faux Pas
Staircases that come down towards your front door will let out all the excellent chi energy from your top floor every time you open the door. Placing a red carpet at the bottom of the staircase can symbolically stop good chi from escaping through the front door or letting in negative energy from the street. Windows or mirrors facing each other in rooms, or no windows at all keep energy keyed up. A landscape faux pas is a tree directly blocking the front door of your home.
Furniture-placement blocking paths or entranceways instead of clear pathways and entrances will create fierce blocks in your business and relationships. A friend had his couch blocking part of the entrance to his front door (career area), and his business dropped in sales significantly. When I saw the placement of his couch, I asked him if he was having business challenges, and he asked, “How did you know?” Well, that is what a Feng Shui Specialist knows! For instance, when you walk into a room, and the back of a couch faces you or the back of a chair, it is not only an inconvenience to take a seat. It can symbolize blocks in living an ideal lifestyle. Or when your desk chair backs to the entrance of a room, it is not only a block in that part of your Bagua, it symbolizes things that keep coming up from behind, challenges that come “out of the blue,” and it is just poor decor in most cases. If there is absolutely no other way to place the couch, desk, bed, or any pieces of furniture facing the back of the entrance, then you must have a mirror positioned so that, when sitting or laying down, you can look into the mirror to see the access or door to the room. Also, your bed placement is essential to good health and happiness. No bed placement should block your view of the bedroom door. If you are born in the western world, you do not want the top of your head facing When your feet face an open door while lying down, this is the “coffin” position and can result in an untimely death, according to Feng Shui principles. ( I didn’t make this up) I don’t want to say the D-word, but the Masters of Feng Shui proposes this event when you sleep with your tipi-toes pointing out your bedroom’s entrance.
The Symbolism of Your Stuff
The colors of the interior and exterior of your walls, collections, odd-shaped rooms, beams, or sharp corners can all affect the Feng Shui of a dwelling. The bathrooms, kitchen, bedrooms, even the laundry room’s location is essential to note in a Feng Shui assessment. The location of a painting or knick-knack and what it symbolizes to the owner will affect the energy and prosperity, health, relationships, recognition, personally and professionally, for all who work or live in the space.
Feng Shui will correct most architectural, landscaping, decor challenges you have while enhancing all areas of your self and space with the building or home. Going deeper into Feng Shui, you will want to know the year the dwelling was complete. Also, the direction it faces determines the best position for your bed by calculating your birthdate information; how your home or business faces can determine fortune or misfortune, even if it looks aesthetically pleasing.
Feng Shui principles help determine the best area of your home possible for each object you love. Getting help from a Feng Shui specialist enables you to choose what to bring into your space or what you want to let go of; what’s not working for you. What kind of art you choose is your choice, but some pieces of art may not reflect the intentions of your space. Each selection of decor has different colors and comes from various elements that will bring harmony or disharmony to be particular Bagua areas. What kind of furniture you choose means good or bad energy based on whether it matches the architecture and style of the home. Plants and or trees in and outside your home create better energy flow or symbolize positively or negatively depending on location. For instance, spiky plants like cactus are not appropriate in front of the house but rather in the back central part of the yard, bringing on increased fame and recognition.
