Organizer Orange County Knows YOu and Your Stuff

Picture

Are you getting tired of not having a place in your home or office, to rest, where there is no clutter in sight?  Do you have furniture that is just not you anymore?  Is there nowhere to sit or stand without feeling squashed?  Are you constantly being told to clean up or get out?  Are there deadlines, bills or appointments you keep missing because you can’t find the paperwork?  If you answered yes to any of these questions you may have a cluttering situation which is out of hand.  Cluttering and hoarding and saving and acquiring and over-collecting behaviors can keep you busy, occupied and sometimes even happy if the stuff you bring in makes you happy.  In the long run though if your getting to the point where the stuff is taking up all your real estate (your space) and you can’t even find a comfy and cozy place to sit (relaxation) and your anxiety (health) about where everything is increases by the minute you’ve probably had enough of your stuff.

Finding a place in the sun for yourself and your space is difficult if your blocking out bad memories, harsh up-bringing, tragedies, losses, poor parental modeling, traumas, divorces, disappointments or anything that just really was sad or upsetting.

When we have difficulty processing past or present upsets bringing material objects to focus on instead can be comforting.  When we have broken relationships with family we may seek a broken piece of furniture to fix instead.  When we have been abused in the past we may bring in the comfort of fabric, pets or dolls to soothe us.  When there has been poor role modeling we may find solace in books, records, antiques and items that may symbolize support.   There is always a reason we seek particular items and keep collecting certain things.  They usually symbolize what we missed or are missing.

Collecting Dolls as an adult may mean that we missed a portion of our childhood.  Of course if you are a Doll Broker then it makes sense that you would make a living from selling the Dolls yet if the Dolls keep piling up, uncared for and strewn about…..what does that mean?  Or even if they are stored but there are so many dolls you cannot even move in your home, then….what does that mean?

When we over-collect mystery or science fiction books does it fill an empty, un-fulfilled lifestyle?  Are we just not having an exciting enough life?  Why so many hundreds of books that we have already read and not enough space to walk around.  Are we re-creating the effect of a “Moon Walk” or diving into our own “Sherlock Holmes” episode?

How many shoes, or bags or clothes do we really want to have around us to make us feel prettier?  How many pieces of memorabilia do we want to keep even if it is crowding you out of the present you?
